Dominic’s House-Phase II – Demolition Scheduled and Building to Begin!

07/25/10

The Mount Laurel-based charity, Dominic’s House, will enter into Phase II of the plan to build the Stratton Family of Mount Laurel a new home. Thanks to the generosity of people all across South Jersey, the Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that more than half of the funding needed to build the house has been raised, due in part to the success of their April 30 “Building the Dream” Sold Out Gala at Aloft.
Temporary housing has been secured for the Strattons and the move is scheduled to take place July 9. Soon thereafter the demolition will begin on their 617 sq ft Hartford Road property.  Canuso Builders will begin building the 1700 sq ft handicapped accessible home they designed that will provide 8 year old Dominic, who has Cerebral Palsy, the room he needs for his medical equipment and in-home physical therapy. Estimated plans are for the Strattons new home to be completed by December 2010.
Dominics House is still in need of funding, contractors offering free or discounted services to reduce the cost of housing completion, and household appliances.
The next fund raising event will be Tuesday September 14.  A golf outing sponsored by Mount Laurel Rotary at Burlington County Country Club 170 Burrs Road Mount Holly, NJ 08060.  The  Rotary selected Dominics House as this year’s beneficiary. The Mount Laurel Rotary is excited to be a part of the very first Mount Laurel Makeover.

  •   January is not a big month for “don’t miss” events, But it is home to one of, if not “the,” premier events of the year—the State Chamber’s annual “Walk to Washington.”
The tradition began in 1937 when several of the state's top business executives took a train to Washington to have dinner with New Jersey's congressional delegation. The rest is history. The Walk to Washington obtained its name when participants realized that few sit on the train; they literally walk the train mingling and exchanging business cards the whole way to Washington.
