Area Experts Collaborate on Podcast Series that Discusses Marketing Strategy for the Masses
08/08/10
“10 Minutes at Exit 4” is a new podcast series for those seeking to improve business with traditional and contemporary marketing strategies, in segments of ten minutes at a time. Its creators, South Jersey’s own resident marketing experts, Howard Yermish and Sandy Spadaro, have big plans for regularly adding rich content to the show.
Sandy and Howard, both marketing professionals with an array of practical business knowledge, take on the challenge of discussing marketing strategy and implementation with two microphones and a chess clock (literally). The show is built on the premise that the best insight comes from swapping opinions while looking at the same issue, from different perspectives.
Each episode features more than one angle of commentary on topics such as Facebook etiquette, losing time on the internet, direct mailing strategies/failures and the pros & cons of today’s social media avenues. Podcasts for listening or for download are available at www.10Exit4.com, iTunes or via email by subscribing to the RSS feed. Remaining true to the social media topics they design discussions around, shows are also available from the “10 Minutes at Exit 4” Facebook page and Twitter profile.
How the Episodes are Made
Shows are recorded at Howard’s office in Mount Laurel, NJ. Keeping as much spontaneity as possible while maintaining an element of direction, the tapings begin with the selection of a general topic that is applicable to professionals of any industry who engage in the marketing of their businesses. A whiteboard diagram is then constructed for use as a cheat-sheet of discussion items as they record the conversation in one “take”. Why the chess clock? Because gimmick or otherwise, the clock doesn’t lie…not only does it differentiate their approach to podcasting with fair discussion, but also helps manage interruptions so that each expert gets to finish sentences and ideas.
With the goal being to keep each episode short and entertaining, but rich with comparative information, they keep each segment to only 10-12 minutes of material. After taping, Sandy writes the show notes and Howard edits the audio. Each episode, its show notes and photos are then pushed out to the public through various mediums, including the existing website at www.10Exit4.com, the Facebook page and Twitter profile. Their plans for future series growth and promotion include special segment video tapings, guest commentators and national contributors to the show.
