Komfort & Kare & Dr. Anne Rosenberg Join Forces For Mastectomy Patients

08/24/10

Komfort & Kare Home Medical and Mobility announced it has partnered with noted breast surgeon Dr. Anne Rosenberg on June 1 in a unique alliance, allowing Komfort & Kare to offer fitting services and supplies to patients treated for breast cancer, including those with breast conservation and mastectomies, with or without reconstruction. These patients are now fitted in Dr. Rosenberg’s Cherry Hill offices every Tuesday and Thursday at 51 Haddonfield Road.
Komfort & Kare’s longest-standing employee, Anne Kollar, who has been certified to fit women for prostheses, bras, and bathing suits since 1982 and was named “Fit Specialist of the Month” for July by Amoena, worldwide leader of post-breast surgery products, fits patients of Dr. Rosenberg’s in a private setting that provides clients with all post-breast surgery needs, including breast size differences and lymphedema, including lymphedema of the arm and hand. The other days, Kollar joins the Komfort & Kare team of certified fitters at Komfort & Kare’s primary location in the Westmont Plaza at 648 W. Cuthbert Blvd in Westmont. Kollar has been described as a surrogate therapist, nurse, best friend and sister to breast cancer survivors. She tells numerous stories of women who come in apprehensive and leave laughing, proudly modeling their new look.
According to Dr. Rosenberg, “adding this service allows us to provide a convenient, compassionate, and safe environment for patients to receive assistance during a very vulnerable time. Not everyone has reconstructive surgery, and certainly not right away. This helps women experiencing loss and body image issues.” Dr. Rosenberg has also been working in-house with Nicole Shevchenko for permanent tattooing of the areola following reconstruction, as well as the eyebrow and other eyeliner enhancement for women who have lost hair due to breast cancer therapy. (Nicole can be reached directly at 856-630-5422.) Seth Auerbach, Komfort & Kare president, said “it’s truly an honor to partner with such a pre-eminent breast surgeon as Dr. Anne Rosenberg. We’re very pleased to be able to work so closely and conveniently with her patients.”
“Women typically are surprised at the array of stylish products available, allowing them to feel like they aren’t giving up something that makes them feel feminine after their surgeries,” explained Kollar. “I have one cute lady who keeps a variety of prostheses at home in various sizes so she can change her look depending on her mood or outfit.” Karen Scola of Collingswood, explained the importance of this immediate support and level of comfort. She previously went to a supplier who put her in a storage room with boxes, shelves and a shower curtain for fittings, with no assistance. “I went home and cried to my mom,” she said. After Scola’s prostheses failed, she put it back together with duct tape rather than return to the provider. When she went to Komfort & Kare, she said the experience was “like night and day. They were very compassionate. Losing a breast is a big loss. Initially you don’t feel whole, and need a lot of support.”
Individuals with post-breast surgery needs interested in meeting Anne Kollar and seeing products, can learn more at the Free Komfort & Kare Health & Wellness Expo on September 17. The Expo is at the Cherry Hill Crowne Plaza on Route 70 (2349 West Marlton Pike) and will be held from 9:00 to 3:00. For more information, logon to www.komfortkare.com or call 856-854-3100.

  •   January is not a big month for “don’t miss” events, But it is home to one of, if not “the,” premier events of the year—the State Chamber’s annual “Walk to Washington.”
The tradition began in 1937 when several of the state's top business executives took a train to Washington to have dinner with New Jersey's congressional delegation. The rest is history. The Walk to Washington obtained its name when participants realized that few sit on the train; they literally walk the train mingling and exchanging business cards the whole way to Washington.
