Interest in Sales & Management Training Surges During Tough Economic Times
Now that we’re coming out of recession, it’s become increasingly clear that not every business was adversely affected by the recent economic downturn. Some companies even thrived.
After posting record earnings in 2009, Sandler Training of South Jersey launched into the new year by tripling office space, expanding programs and adding three additional staffers, it was announced this month.
“Last year was our best year ever,” says Paul Szklarski who owns and operates the Cherry Hill-based, sales training facility with his business partner and daughter, Stephanie.
“There’s been an economic downturn and slow recovery, so we’re seeing a lot of people who are either between jobs or uncertain about their employment, who decide they want to learn the Sandler system and pursue a career in sales.
“We are also working with a growing number of businesses around the region that are eager to adopt a proven system so they can become more competitive in today’s selling situations,” Szklarski, a former healthcare executive, continues.
Sandler Training is the largest provider of sales and management training programs with over 200 offices worldwide.
With the office expansion at their existing location on Rt. 70 in Cherry Hill, the Szklarskis have doubled the amount of space available to present sales training and management training programs. The additional area will accommodate larger classes and an expanded weekly schedule of training programs.
“One of the new classes we are offering this year is called Foundations, and it’s a baseline, entry-level course for people who are eager to develop or refresh basic selling skills,” Szklarski says. “We focus on fundamental techniques and behaviors, so it’s great for someone downsized out of a position and wants to enter sales, or for someone who used to be in sales, has not sold in a while, and now finds themselves back in that role again.”
Paul and Stephanie have also added a 4- seat Call Center facility, where trainees are taught how to be more effective in a tele-sales role to support their new business prospecting and lead generation activities. The call center provides an opportunity for the Szklarskis to reinforce techniques and behaviors, as trainees utilize their newly developed skills in a safe, supervised environment.
“There are plenty of opportunities available out there,” Paul says with a smile, “but sales people have to be prepared to pick up the phone. For example, in this economy a number of companies have failed. So if your competitor goes out of business, you have to reach out and call all of their clients -- because they need what you are selling today.”
Paul and Stephanie have also hired three new Associates. They plan to expand their associate staff by another three or four positions later this year.
